Cupcake Flower Bouquet

When I’m not busy baking in the kitchen or taking unnecessary amounts of food photos, I like to explore the great outdoors. While everything about nature is beautiful, I really love seeing colorful clusters of flowers. Since I’ve always wanted a gigantic flower bouquet from my nonexistent boyfriend, I decided to make a flower bouquet myself the only way I know how: with cupcakes!

I wasn’t exactly sure how to go about balancing cupcakes sideways, but I didn’t think it would be too rough. I’m a college student, so I can figure out anything thanks to all my classes about journalism, plant biology, political scien — actually, I don’t think those classes helped me with diddly-squat for this.

First, I had to buy a styrofoam ball to be the base for my cupcakes to rest on. Then, I attempted to balance my cupcakes on toothpicks, which was not a smart move. After testing out that idea, having a cupcake fall to ground, and screaming “man down, MAN DOWN,” I switched out the toothpicks for lollipop sticks.

After I got everything set up, I decorated my cupcakes to look like different flowers and put them in the fridge for an hour to let the icing set up, which made them easier to handle.

After the cupcakes were chilled, I gently poked a hole through their bottoms and slid them onto the sticks until they touched the styrofoam.

This wasn’t the easiest task, but it was worth it in the end. Not to mention that my mother’s classy antique vase made my project look 100 times better. I love sneaking into the China Cabinet and playing with valuable glass!

I’m proud of myself for taking hours to perfect this, only to take it apart as soon as I got my pictures because I couldn’t take hearing another cupcake splat on the ground.

If you love flowers and cupcakes, try making a cupcake flower bouquet if you have a few hours to spare. If you bring this to a party, everyone will most certainly be impressed, unless cupcakes start falling to the ground. Fret not, there’s always the five second rule.
