If I told you I had two tickets to grilled cheese paradise, would you pack your bags and leave with me, tonight? I sense your skepticism, so let me break down the kind of grilled cheese I mean. I’m talkin’ about a sandwich with cheddar cheese, beer cheese, onion rings and sweet and tangy BBQ pulled chicken between two pieces of thick Texas toast. If all of the above sounds like something you’d be down for, meet a restaurant called The Yard.
The Yard is known for their legendary grilled cheese sandwiches, so I had an idea of what I wanted when I saw their menu. I was between two different sandwiches at first, and I began to sweat. How could I decide between the “Smack Yo Mama” sandwich with beer and cheddar cheese, onion rings, and pulled BBQ chicken, and the “Mac Attack” sandwich with cheddar, mac ‘n cheese and bacon pieces?
My answer came when my best friend, Jenna, introduced a genius plan: she would get the “Mac Attack,” and I would get the “Smack Yo Mama,” so we could split the sandwiches to get the best of both worlds. Seriously, shoutout to Jenna for making my dreams of eating both sandwiches come true.
Once I took my first bite of the “Smack Yo Mama,” I was mesmerized by the combination of pulled chicken, beer cheese and onion rings. It was something I never knew I needed, until now. Don’t even get me started on the “Mac Attack.” The mac ‘n cheese was unbelievably creamy and cheesy. I couldn’t take enough pictures of the melted cheese oozing out of the sides.
If you want to upgrade your childhood grilled cheese sandwich, I highly recommend going to The Yard. Their sandwiches made me swoon, and no sandwich has ever done that before. Instead of continuing my praise for The Yard’s grilled cheese, I’m going to snack on my leftovers and relive everything all over again.
