Last Friday, I woke up thinking it would be a great day. If only I knew then that my hopes and dreams would be crushed as soon as I walked outside. When I got on the bus to head to class that morning, I noticed my clothes were wet. Turns out it was raining. No biggie, I knew I had an umbrella in my backpack, right? Except I didn’t, because my umbrella was drying in my room since it rained the day before. It was in that moment that I realized I was going to be on campus all day without an umbrella. Happy fun Friday to me.
When I sat down for my first class of the morning, I tried sending a message to the sky. I screamed at it to pour down all the rain it wanted to, until my class ended. I actually think that backfired on me because as soon as class was done and I walked toward the door, I couldn’t even see anything outside because it was raining so hard.
I thought I would wait the rain out, but its hard to beat the master at its own game. I knew I had to eat lunch before my next class, so I sprinted like the retired high school track star I am and thankfully, caught a bus right in time that was heading to the dining commons. My hair looked like a wet dog, but I had food, so I was happy.
When it was finally time for my last class, I was ready to be done with Mother Nature. I had enough of the rain and its destruction of my clothes. After I was done with classes for the day, I knew my battle was over. All I had to do was get some dinner, and call it a night. Except I had to walk to the dining hall in the rain because there was no bus that went there. At that point, all I wanted to do was throw myself in a dryer and stay there forever.
To make a long story short, I survived an entire rainy day on campus without an umbrella, and let me tell you, I will never make the mistake of forgetting my handy sidekick again.
Considering it also rained the day before this and I thought slyly, “Dang, it would really stink to be in this mess without an umbrella,” I certainly learned my lesson.
